Hyfac 421 starts lighter in color and remains lighter during processing than two other leading hydrogenated stearic acids. The test results presented here prove this statement. The lighter original color and the greater color stability (tests 1 and 2) of Hyfac 421 give manufacturers greater control over the final color of their products than do less stable hydrogenated stearic acids. Note in tests 3 and 4, where more stringent processing conditions are applied, that Hyfac 421 has contributed considerably less to color darkening than competitive acids. In addition, the superior oxidation stability of Hyfac 421, proved by comparable tests, not only gives manufacturers protection against yellowing from aging, but also prevents degradative changes in emulsion, odor (rancidity), texture, consistency, and clarity of finished products during storage, normal shelf life, and use. Hyfac 421 also has very low initial odor, both as a solid and as a liquid. In addition, it possesses a low iodine value, and its quality is uniform, batch after batch. In short, Hyfac 421 is one of the finest hydrogenated stearic acids available. It is currently being used in metallic soaps and stearates and in textile specialties. It frequently replaces double pressed stearic acids where titer and composition are not critical. Hyfac 421 is but one of a series of high quality Hyfac Hydrogenated Stearic and Palmitic acids offering a wide range of compositions (see table) for all uses.
