NIAN LIUMATERIALS FOR ENERGY Every year, the Division of Inorganic Chemistry (DIC) of the American Chemistry Society awards the highly competitive and prestigious title of DIC Young Investigator to 8 awardees, who are chosen from a large pool of graduate students and postdoctoral associates.1 Chemistry of Materials is proud to have begun sponsorship of one of these 8 awards; we have absolutely no input or influence in the decision process, and thus we are (almost!) as excited as the winners when they are announced just before each fall ACS Meeting. This year, at the fall 2015 ACS meeting in Boston, the winner of the DIC Young Investigator Award, sponsored by Chemistry of Materials, was Nian Liu, a postdoc in the laboratory of Yi Cui and Steven Chu at Stanford University (Figure 1); Nian recently completed his Ph.D. in the Cui Lab

and has been working in the area of materials for batteries.2 He presented a talk at the Young Investigators’ Symposium on the Sunday afternoon of the ACS meeting entitled “Nanostructured Si Anodes for High-Energy Li-Batteries”.3 Congratulations to Nian, and to all the 2015 DIC Young Investigators, and we look forward to meeting next year’s winners.
