Hydrocarbon Analysis .A 2-day seminar on the practical aspects of hydrocarbon analysis has been scheduled by the Satural Gasoline Association oi *America in the Texas Hotel, Fort Worth, Tex., September 21 and 22. Using classroom arrangement and procedure, the seminar will consist of a series of lectures, quiz panels, question periods, and demonstrations. On September 21 A. J. Miller, Phillips Petroleum Co., will discuss comparative analysis, 6. T. Preston, Natural Gasoline .Association of America, will cover low temperature fractional analysis of gases and liquids, S. L. Cahn, Beckman Instrument Corp., will discuss analysis by infrared spectroscopy, and A. P. Gifford, Consolidated Engineering Corp., u ill speak on hydrocarbon analysis by mass spectrometer. The second day will be devoted to discussions of low temperature fractionation techiiiques and auxiliary techniques in forums led by S.T. Preston, Dan Smith, Phillips Petroleum Co., and Walter J. Podbielniak, I’odbielniak, Inc. 11.F. Wirges, Cities Service Oil Co., Rartlesville. Okla., is chairnian of the Program Committee.
Conference on Applied Mass Spectrometry .1 conference on applied mass spectrometry, organized by thca .\lass Spectrometry Panel of the Institute of Petroleum Hydrowrbon Research Group, is to be held October 29 and 30, a t thc Institution of Electrical Engineers, Savoy Place, London, England. Its main object is to bring together Imerican, British, and European workers in the field of applied mass spectrometry to discuss problems of current and future interest. Most of the papers are designed to interest those who use mass spectrometers in their daily work, but the papers of the first day are devoted to subjects in analytical chemistry m-here mass spectrometry hac proved particularly valuable. The program will include 18 papers from workers in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Holland, covering: ( 1 ) quantitative analysis of gases, liquids, and solids, including the continuous monitoring and control of production composition by mass spectrometry; ( 2 ) applications to the study of molecular structure, free radicals, and electron molrcule collision processes; and (3) recent developments in instrumentation and computing techniques. lpplications for further particulars and for registration forms should be sent to W.
