The Chemistry of Enamines
The class of compounds designated as enamines, although known for many years, has only recently gained recognition by organic chemists as an extremely important group of intermediates in organic syntheses. During the last decade, an increasing number of investigators have reported new ways by which enamines may be formed and in which they react. In the past few years, especially, a prodigious number of articles has appeared describing enamines and their advantageous use as intermediates and blocking groups in organic syntheses. The usefulness of enamine chemistry is growing so rapidly that this article will consider only those applications of enamines which the author considers most useful and of the widest interest.
