The first radial-flow, single-reactor anhydrous ammonia plant in the nation is on-stream near Blytheville, Arkansas. Built for AGRICO Chemical Company, a division of Continental Oil Company, its rated capacity is 1,000 tons per stream day, ranking it among the largest single-train facilities of its kind. Designed as a highly economic operation, the plant's sophisticated equipment includes a high-pressure methane reforming complex and centrifugal compressors for synthesis gas and recycle services. Bechtel had sole responsibility—engineering, procurement, construction—for this important grass-roots project.
