Letters Update on Carcinogens for Chemical Information Laboratory Profiles As the source for the Chemical Information Laboratory Profiles (CLIPs) published in this Journal from which the carcinogenicity or non-carcinogenicity of the subject reagents have been determined I have for the past several months cited the Report on Carcinogens, 10th edition (1). The recently published 11th edition of that publication (2) contains two lists of compounds, titled “Known To Be Human Carcinogens” and “Reasonably Anticipated To Be a Human Carcinogen”. There are several new compounds in those lists that were not named in the prior 10th edition. Among these are lead and lead compounds and naphthalene. Accordingly, the published CLIPs for lead acetate trihydrate (3), lead(II) chromate (4), lead dioxide (5), lead(II) nitrate (6), and naphthalene (7) should be marked to indicate that these five compounds have been cited in the 11th edition as known to be or reasonably anticipated to be carcinogenic. Until the 12th edition is published, CLIPs published in this issue and in future issues of this Journal will use the 11th edition (2) as the source of carcinogenic identification.
