Mass Spectrometers Two new mass spectrometers, suit able for operation with gas chromatographs, are known as the Chromatog raphy Micromass 12 Series. They are single-focusing instruments with a 12-cm radius and a 60° sector, but they can be converted into doublefocusing types if needed. Resolutions are 1250, and mass sensitivities are in the picogram range, by use of pro grammed peak selection. The Micromass 12F is a fast pumping instru ment which uses 1300-1. /sec diffusion pumps on the sample source and can handle up to 24 ml/min of carrier gas flowing directly from a gas chromatograph without use of any molecular separator. Available accessories in clude a multiple-ion monitor, a probe for inserting solid samples, a reservoir system, and a gas chromatograph. VG Micromass Ltd., Winsford, Cheshire, England

Liquid Chromatograph Model 1440 LC features a constant flow, pulseless, 2000-psi solvent pump for isocratic or gradient elution and a six-port injection valve for rapid and reproducible sample introduction. Columns are stainless steel. Also in cluded in the system are a dual-beam photometer with eight full-scale absorbance ranges from 0.01 to 2.0 A, microflow cells, and 13 operating wavelengths. better quantitative data faster and less expensively The Wilks Scientific MIRAN I ™ system of infrared analyzers offers analytical chemists an economical measuring package adaptable to a wide variety of sampling situations. Wherever infrared absorption can be measured, a MIRAN I instrument will provide outstanding results at low cost. Users claim quantitative precision equal or superior to research-grade spectrophotometers. And infrared often produces better, faster, and less ex-

pensive results than gas chroma tography. Three different analyzers, any type of sampling system, a variety of readouts, and several special mod ifications make the MIRAN I a versa tile tool for low cost analysis. Write for a new brochure.
