ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Specific heat measurements for met als, ceramics, glasses, plastics, and intermetallics may be made with the aid of a new ice calorimeter, Model DC-3000. After the powdered or liq uid sample has been heated, it is al lowed to attain thermal equilibrium in the ice mantle; the heat given up melts a quantity of ice, and the change in the ice-water volume may be determined from the weight of mercury drawn into the ice mantle. Heat leak into the calorimeter approx imates 2.0 cal/hour, with tempera ture accuracy of ± 0 . 2 5 % . ThermoPhysics Corp., 639 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, Mass. 02139 409

Data Processing Λ two-dimensional graphic-to-digital computer input system, the Grafacon Model 1010A, provides a 10- χ 10-inch writing surface and electronic pen cir cuitry. A wide range of graphical in formation may be plotted directly on an integral screen with a resolution of 100 lines/inch and 10e input locations. Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc., 2126 S. Lyon St., Santa Ana, Calif. 410 Reference Electrodes A new dual-glass junction electrode features a glass dumbbell fused to the tip of the borosilicate outer body; con traction of the dumbbell produces a tiny opening between the two glass walls. Flow rate is 0.5 to 3 microliters per hour with an output stability of ±0.5 mV over the range —5° to 90° C. Fisher Scientific Co., 300 Fisher Bldg., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219 411 Laboratory Utensils Teflon-coated forceps, spatulas, and tongs have been developed for handling corrosive materials at temperatures up to 550° F. The new YSI Model 54 an swers the need for a quickly calibrated, temperature com pensated instrument with re corder output for accurate single measurements or shortterm monitoring of dissolved oxygen. It reads and records directly in ppm. The extremely compact Model 54 is ideal for both lab use and field sampling of sewage plants, lakes, rivers, etc. t o 50 feet (100 feet on special order). A unique, selfagitating motorized accessory probe permits BOD bottle readings in less than a minute without a stirrer. Instrument and probe under $500.00. Write for bulletin.
