The programs provide ernn messages and keep track of student performance within a particular program. H w w e r , there is nc, function t o provide student or instructor with a record of the student's performance in each of several different programs. Some messages were displayed on the screen for too short a time to be read and understood. There is apparently no way t o move from the programs on disk 1 to disk 2 without turning the computer off and hack on again. Entering an answer with other than the desired number of significant figures produced prompts that varied from program t o program. The backspace arrow is functional in the programs hut is not mentioned anywhere. The programs t o calculate a straight line by linear regression, t o calculate the mean, standard deviation, and 95 percent and 99 percent confidence limits of s set of data, each can handle up t o 50 pairs of values. Entry of more data caused the system to crash. A more serious problem area was the display, which did not generally include lower case letters or sub- or superscripts. The keyboard input did not always work with this limitation in a logical manner. For example, iron (11) chloride was displayed as FEC12 rather than FeCI2. The program did not accept keyboard input of FeC12 as a correct entry; instead this was scored as an incorrect answer, and only keyboard input of FEC12 was correct.
