DABCO-33LV low viscosity catalyst retains 1 0 0 % activity d u r i n g extended storage. Such stability is extremely i m p o r t a n t in two-component prepolymer and one-shot premix rigid systems. Reaction rates can t h e n be r e p r o d u c e d , with controlled gela tion t i m e p e r m i t t i n g good flowability and fast cures for o p t i m u m physical proper ties. System m a n u f a c t u r e r s have rec ognized t h a t DABCO sets the standard for urethane catalyst performance. DABCO, in its five years of world-wide use, has never been associated with a toxicity p r o b l e m . According to t h e re ported literature certain volatile tertiary amine catalysts, particularly f r o m a m o n g t h e N-methylated alkylene diamines, produce toxic vapors t h a t cause t h e hazardous 'blue haze' effect on eyes . . . a very i m p o r t a n t reason to choose DABCO and DABC0-33LV. DABCO-33LV offers the convenience of a liquid catalyst plus all the advantages of DABCO. In flexible slab formulations, DABCO is used at concentrations of .08 to .15 parts per 100 parts polyol. DABCO33LV contains y 3 by weight DABCO in a solution of dipropylene glycol and is used proportionately. It is lower in cost t h a n combinations of less active, vapor-form ing amines. To produce a flexible f o a m with a density of 1.5 lbs/ft 3 , the cost for DABCO-33LV is less than 5 / 1 0 0 of a cent per board foot of f o a m . Only t h e water in your formulation costs less. For one-shot rigid systems using PAPIf or crude grades of isocyanates, DABCO33LV is recommended in conjunction with a strong basic amine co-catalyst. Dimethylaminoethanol is an economical, strongly basic amine which is miscible with DABCO-33LV. It buffers the acidity of the isocyanates, permitting DABCO33LV to do its job of catalyzing the system. Gelation rates are controllable, permitting better flowability and less shear. Foams have higher compression strengths and lower equilibrium Κ factors.
