F o r several years he worked on mycology a t t h e I n s t i t u t o Oswaldo Cruz. H e was educated a t t h e University of Brazil and worked a t Haskins Laboratories, New York, as a Guggenheim Fellow. He served as adviser, Section of Bio­ logical Research, National Research Council, Brazil. His writings include 30 papers and a book.

Herman Baker is a member of t h e D e p a r t m e n t of Chemistry of M t . Sinai Hospital, New York. H e ob­ tained his doctorate in microbiological chemistry in 1956 a t New York University, after taking a master's in medical biochemistry a t E m o r y University. H e has written a number of papers, several in collaboration with H a r r y Sobotka, on t h e use of microbiological assays in clinical re­ search. H e is now doing work on nutritional disorders in pregnancy, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, pernicious anemia, and thermophilic bac­ teriology.

C. B. Murphy received his B.S. a n d M.S. degrees from t h e College of t h e Holy Cross in 1941 a n d 1942, re­ spectively. After three years of naval duty, he returned to Holy Cross as a member of the Chemistry D e p a r t m e n t faculty. I n 1952 he received his Ph.D. from Clark University. I n t h e same year he joined American Cyanamid's Stamford Research Labora­ tory. H e joined t h e Chemistry a n d Metallurgy Laboratory of General Electric's General Engineering L a b ­ oratory, where he is now manager, analytical chemistry.
