The thickness may be varied from 0.015 millimeter to six millimeters, with vol ume varying from two to ten cubic cen timeters. Reproducibility of the cell is said to be better than plus or minus two mi crons. Linearity is plus or minus two per cent for cell settings of 50 microns and above. 12

inal 600-cc. thin window ionization chamber can be provided. This is used to compare strength of alpha and beta sources, measure very soft x-rays, and check low level contamination. For consistency of calibration, a Weston standard cell is incorporated in the instrument. This is said by the company to have an electrical accuracy of better than one per cent in all ranges. An issued certificate gives correction factors to be applied at various energies. Barometric pressure and air temperature corrections, obtained from an alignment chart on the instrument, are preset on a dial. 13
