Eastern Analytical Symposium 30th Annual Meeting November 11-15, 1991 Somerset, New Jersey The 30th Eastern Analytical Sympo sium (EAS) will be held at the Gar den State Convention and Exhibit Center in Somerset, Ν J, Nov. 11-15. The meeting is sponsored by the A m e r i c a n C h e m i c a l Society; t h e American Microchemical Society; the Delaware Valley, New England, and New York Sections of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy; and the New York Microscopical Society. Fifty oral and six poster sessions are scheduled from Monday, Nov. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 14. An expo sition of scientific instruments and suppliers will be open from noon on Monday through 2 P.M. on Thursday. The program will be highlighted by six symposia honoring this year's award recipients: Alan G. Marshall, The Ohio S t a t e U n i v e r s i t y — E A S Award for O u t s t a n d i n g Achieve m e n t s in the Fields of Analytical Chemistry; Robert L. Grob, Villanova University—EAS Award in Chroma tography; John D. Roberts, Califor nia I n s t i t u t e of Technology—EAS

Award for Achievements in Magnetic Resonance; W. Fred McClure, North Carolina State University—EAS Award for Achievements in Near-IR Spectroscopy; Isiah Warner, Emory University—New York Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy Award Medal; and Nicholas Winograd, The Pennsylvania State Uni v e r s i t y — A m e r i c a n Microchemical Society Benedetti-Pichler Award. Fifteen EAS-sponsored short courses are scheduled; a listing of course titles appears on the preregist r a t i o n form on p. 895 A. Details about t h e professional a n a l y t i c a l chemist's course can be obtained from Alan Ullman, Procter & Gamble Co., Winton Hill Technical Center, 6250 Hill Rd., Cincinnati, OH 452241796. The Journal of Organic Chemistry solicits manuscripts that address topics at the interface of organic chemistry and biology.

W

hile such manuscripts should address fundamental problems in organic chemistry (structure, mechanism, synthesis), we encourage submission of manuscripts in which these problems are solved with the use of techniques not traditionally associated with organic chemistry (enzyme kinetics, enzyme isolation and purification, identification of active site residues, etc.). The Journal hopes to foster integrated publications in which the chemical aspects are not separated from the biological aspects. For manuscript format, see J. Org. Chem, 1990,55 (1), 7A-10A. Send manuscripts to: C. H. Heathcock. Editor-in-Chief, The Journal of Organic Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720
