PRIMARY

2,5-DIETHOXY ANILINE

OCH 3

Shipped as f r e e bases, both amines a r e convenient starting points for the manufacture of naphtho! color bases; 2,5-dimethoxy aniline being particularly useful in the synthesis of Fast Blue 2R salt. Both compounds a r e readily diazotized in strong hydrochloric acid to yield light sensitive salts.

Typical secondary amine reactions, Couples with diazo salts to yield a z o dyestuffs; the benzene ring m a y be nitrated, sulfonated or halogenated. Normally yields amides with acids or anhydrides, but if amino group is blocked esters may be formed by reaction with the hydroxyl side chain.

Highly reactive intermediates. M a y b e nitrated, sulfonated, h a l o g e n a t e d or esterified. Readily c o u p l e d w i t h d i a z o salts t o p r o d u c e d y e s a n d intermediates.
