Versatile new high-performance adhesives give strong bonds at high temperatures

Strong bonds between a wide variety of materials — including metals, plastics, glass, textiles and paper — can be formed with a new series of t h r e e thermoplastic polymeric adhesives now available from E a s t m a n in development quantities. These adhesives, which a r e applied a t t e m p e r a t u r e s of 200 to 260°C, are designed for applications requir­ ing bonds t h a t provide good adhesion, plus resist­ ance to moisture and lubricants, a t t e m p e r a t u r e s r a n g i n g up to 190°C. In our tensile shear tests with 7-mil thick steel and 12-mil thick aluminum, the metal failed before \ h e adhesive bond, even a t 120°C! Send the coupon for details. B82

The symmetry and high degree of substitution of this secondary glycol impart unusual thermal and hydrolytic stability to i t s diesters. The reaction products of this chemical intermediate should be of interest as plasticizers and lubricants as well as in the production of polymers. BIS

This compound, in addition to typical reactions of a diketone such as the formation of the oxime o r the cyanohydrin, undergoes certain special reactions. F o r example, reaction with carbonyl group reagents, in some cases, proceeds to produce heterocyclic derivatives. Potential applications for these compounds include use in photography and as dye intermediates.
