Editorial As I write this editorial in mid-November, Energy & Fuels has already received more papers this year than it did during all of last year. We are grateful for the confidence that the fuels research community continues to show in Energy & Fuels as evidenced by their desire to publish in it. The breadth of the journal continues to increase in ways which we believe desirable because it is moving toward a full representation of the broad range of activities which constitute fuel science. The editors are grateful to the referees who play an important role in setting standards for the fuel science community and for the journal. The vast majority of reports are insightful, detailed, constructive, and timely. Most of you continue to write the kind of reviewer’s reports that you would like to receive. Thanks. Energy & Fuels tested a new electronic publishing feature in 1995, publishing color artwork on the World Wide Web. Color fidelity and reproduction were excellent. Printing of color in journals is expensive. In the past, authors have been asked to bear the full additional costs incurred. The American Chemical Society has now established a color budget to assist authors by defraying some of the cost of publishing in the journal color artwork essential to the understanding of the printed paper. Additional color artwork which supports the conclusions of the paper but is not needed to follow the argument should be offered as Supporting Information, and will be available free via the World Wide Web to journal subscribers. Submission of the final accepted manuscript on disk is now preferred. About 87% of the papers sent into production are now typeset directly from the author-supplied disk. The time savings are significant. We appreciate your continued cooperation in this area. John W. Larsen Editor EF9502362
