Editorial Disk Submission of Manuscripts The American Chemical Society has begun the next phase of its new manuscript composition system-typesetting of manuscripts from disks. Authors will now be asked to submit, if possible, a disk copy of the final draft of their manuscript along with a hardcopy. Currently, Microsoft Word and Word Perfect are the easiest programs to convert; however, other programs are also acceptable. This new composition process will be concentrated mainly on text conversion, but it won’t be long until equations and tables will also be converted. When submitting manuscripts on disks, authors will need to include the following information: (1)whether a DOS-based or MacIntosh-based system was used; (2) type of word processing program used; (3) file name(s) for the manuscript. For now, authors are asked to keep text separate from equations, schemes, and figures. Lawrence J. Marnett Editor
