First European Analytical Conference UNDERTHE TITLEEuroanalysis-I, the first of a new series of analytical conferences to br arranged at regular intervals in Europe was hclld in Heidelberg, Germany, from August 28-September 1, 1972. This first conference waq organized jointly by the Analytical Chemistry Division of the German Chemical Society, the Analytical Chemistry Section of the Royal Setherlands Chemical Society. and the Society for Analytical Chemistry of Great Britain. A long range plan, being developed by the analytical chemistry groups of the Federation of European Chemical Societies, envisions conferences a t threr-year interval, to be sponsored on a rotating basis by the host group together v i t h tn o other cooperating groups. The next conference i:, planned for Budapest, Hungary, during the first TI eek of September 1975. The 1972 conference n-as attended by over 400 participant3 from 21 nations. I n addition to technical papers covering a vide variety of analytical met hods, several presentations and a gencral d i i c u 4 o n session were devoted to the teaching of anal? tical chemi-try. Of particular significance is the fact that analytical chcmiht\, among the Federation of European Chemical Societici. are taking the lead in fostering active international cooperation among European chemists in general. These conferenceq, it is to be hoped, vi11 encourngc the gron t h of the Federation to include all European countric3. American analytical chemists nill be welcome to attend arid to contribute papers, although, of course, they nill not take part in arranging the conferences. The establishment of this new series of analytical conferenceq give. rise to hopes that analytical chemistry in Europe i i entering a period of flourishing activity and fruitful international cooperation, n hich n ill serve as an example to other branches of science. and to othrr ar('as of the world.
