International Gas Chromatography Sy mposium FIRST 27 PAPERS of this issue were given a t the 2nd International Symposium on Advances in Gas Chromatography, Houston, Texas, March 23-26. The cooperation of reviewers appointed a t the meeting in dealing promptly with papers and the personal and informal discussions between authors and reviewers which permitted rapid agreement as to manuscript changes were to the editor the ideal way t o conduct the reviewing of papers. Our only regret is that this method is not possible with papers sent in individually. We are also convinced from our experience a t these meetings t h a t a maximum of informal scientific interchange is achieved when so many of the participants are from other countries. We are particularly pleased that such cooperation enabled us to publish this symposium three months after presentation. The Report for Analytical Chemists this month is also part of the symposium and deals with Kovbts Retention Index System. While this method of treating gas chromatography data is well known in Europe, it has not received wide acceptance in this country. This report, prepared by L,. s. Ettre, should familiarize our readers with this potentially useful system for gas chromatography. We thank the authors and reviewers for their cooperation. The organizing ability of Professor Zlatkis, the program chairman, was again demonstrated, and without his uncanny ability to meet deadlines concerning manuscripts, this symposium could not be so promptly published.
