Letters to the Editor A t the 1977 Advisory Board meeting, it was decided to launch a new feature, Letters t o t h e Editor. It is important to distinguish clearly between this feature, which will appear in the “A” pages, and Correspondence, which will continue to appear as a category of articles in the research section. To quote from our Manuscript Requirements [Anal. Chern., 49, 686 (1977), “Correspondence may be brief disclosures of analytical concepts of unusual significance. They may also represent important comments on the work of others, in which case the authors of the work being discussed will, ordinarily, be allowed to reply”. This procedure guards against the publication of scientific material which has not undergone the peer review process. Letters t o t h e Editor will include material not intended to become a part of the permanent scientific literature. It will not be abstracted or indexed, and is not intended for citation. Appropriate topics will be those of professional, educational, or general interest to analytical chemists and other readers of this journal. Letters of broad interest to the chemical profession as a whole will find a more appropriate outlet in Chemical a n d Engineering News. In the interests of conservation of space, the Editors reserve the right to reject any contribution without specific cause, and to excerpt material from letters considered excessively long. Unsigned letters will not be considered. It is hoped that this new feature will prove to be of interest and service to our readers.
