Editorial: Perennial Reviews Science moves at a rapid pace, with review articles aging just as quickly. What is a great resource at the time of publication can lose much of its value in a year’s time and often is worth little after a few years. To remedy the review-aging problem, Chemical ReViews has recently introduced Perennial Reviews. These dynamic Web-only reviews are author-submitted updated versions of original Chemical ReViews articles and will be listed in the Table of Contents of both the printed and the electronic version of the Journal as well as the Chemical ReViews Perennial Reviews page online. The inaugural Perennial Review appeared in the November 2006 Web Edition of the Journal and is still listed on the Perennial Reviews section of the Journal home page. It was written by Slawomir Szafert and John A. Gladysz, and is the first update of Szafert, S.; Gladysz, J. A. Carbon in One Dimension: Structural Analysis of the Higher Conjugated Polyynes. Chem. ReV. 2003, 103, 4175 (DOI: 10.1021/cr030041o). In Szafert, S.; Gladysz, J. A. Update 1 of: Carbon in One Dimension: Structural Analysis of the Higher Conjugated Polyynes. Chem. ReV. 2006, 106 (11), PR1-PR33 (DOI: 10.1021/cr068016g), the original article appears in black type, with updates in red. An author who wishes to update a review should consult the Perennial Reviews section of the Chemical ReViews Web page and then contact the Editorial Office that handled the original article. If the Editors approve publication of an update, the authors will be provided a pdf or MSWord file of the published article and will incorporate their changes into the document. It is also possible to proceed from the originally accepted word processing document, provided the author takes care to incorporate changes made during copy editing and at the proof stage. The update can be done once or several times for a period of up to five years after initial publication. Additional details and updates will be posted to the Perennial Reviews section of the Chemical ReViews Web page, http://pubs.acs.org/journals/chreay/index.html. Josef Michl, Editor, and John A.
