NEW CHEMICALS CHEMICAL REAGENTS Inorganic Polycrystalline Materials A wide variety of polycrystalline in organic phases of high purity is avail able for use as standards, such as for x-ray powder diffraction patterns, thermogravimetnc analysis and dif ferential thermal analysis curves, elec tron micrographs, etc. Classes of ma terials include carbonates, oxides, sili cates, silicate hydrates, tungstates, sulfides, and titanates. Tem-Pres liesearch, Inc., State College, Pa. 16801. 501 Stable Gas Isotopes Two stable gas isotopes—helium-3 and neon-20—are now available, sepa rately or mixed to specifications. These gases, used as a mixture, pro duce the highest spectral purity in gas lasers. In addition, pure helium-3 can be used to provide precise low tempera ture measurements. Linde Division of Union Carbide Corp., Rare Gas Dept., 270 Park Ave., Xew York, Ν. Υ. 10017. 502 UV Solvents Thirteen Spectroquality solvents are now available with cut-offs that extend well into the far ultraviolet region. The solvents have cut-offs ranging from 1S8 πιμ to 207 τημ. Matheson Coleman & Bell, P. O. Box 85, East Rutherford, Ν J 503 High Purity Gases Ultra high purity gases are available for use as special atmospheres in semi conductor and other electronic com ponent work, for analytical instrument standards, and for studies in kinetics. Those now available are: hydrogen, guaranteed purity 99.999%; oxygen, guaranteed purity 99.99%; helium, guaranteed purity 99.999% (excluding neon); and methane, 99.99%. The Matheson Co., P. O. Box 85, East Rutherford, N. J. 504 Carbon-14 Tagged Phospholipids Phospholipids randomly tagged with carbon-14 are now available. Included are lecithin U-C 14 , cephalin U-C 1 4 , phosphatidyl inositol U-C 14 , phospha tidyl serine U-C 14 , and sphingomyelin U-C 14 . These materials are produced from chlorella algae and are available in a highly purified form. Applied Science Laboratories, Inc., P. O. Box 140, State College, Pa. 505

Agarose f o r Electrophoresis Agarose (electrophoresis grade) is available for the preparation of gels that have a gel strength of up to three times that of Agar for equivalent con centrations. Due to the absence of charged groups, gels prepared from Agarose show negligible electroendosmosis and are therefore very suitable for use in both immuno and zone electrophoresis. Mann Research Laboratories, Inc., 136 Liberty St., New York 6, Ν . Υ. 506 Polyphenyl Ether (6 Ring) A limited supply of polyphenyl ether (6 ring) is available for use as a stationary phase in gas chromatog raphy. The material has a maximum operating temperature of 350° C. The phase is useful for separating high boiling aromatic compounds of various types including amines, chlorinated compounds, acids, hydrocarbons, ke

tones, and others. I t is available both in MATERIALS pure form and as a column packing, coated on Anakrom in 10-mesh cuts from 40/50 to 160/170 mesh. Analabs, P . O. Box 5215, Hamden, Conn. 06518. 507 Spherical Resin for Column Chromatograpy A spherical resin has been developed specifically for use in ion exchange chromatography. Spherical research resins are now being manufactured for both protein hydrolyzate and physio logical fluid analyses and other chroma tographic needs. They pack easily and evenly into analytical columns. By permitting higher back pressures and faster flow rates, they cut the time required for a typical amino acid analysis from 61/2 hours to 4 hours, with improved sensitivity and no loss of resolution, according to the manu facturer.
