About an important new chromatography brochure

EM Labs Issues new TLC Catalog EM Laboratories in Elmsford, N.Y., an affiliate of B. Merck, Darmstadt, Germany, offers a new catalog of chromatographic preparations which has 35 important new listings. The catalog is so comprehensive that even if you are merely considering the use of TLC and column chromatography, you should have a copy for your reference. Among the listings you will find sections on precoated layers on aluminum sheets, plastic (and plastic rolls) and glass. Diagnostic TLC tests are listed. A large range of standard sorbents are available for thin layer, preparative layer and column chromatography. Materials include silica gel, cellulose, cellulose derivatives, kieselguhr, aluminum oxides, and polyamide. There is an excellent section on reference standards and other helpful materials such as sprays, microcapillaries, and test mixtures.

In addition, new silica gels type 40 and type 100 are now available for column chromatography. Some of their physical data are listed below. Pore volume (ml/g) Specific surface (m 2 /g) Pore d i a m e t e r (Â)

Type 40 0.65 650 40

Type 60 Type 100 0.75 1.00 500 400 60 100

EM Laboratories, Inc. An Expanded Line of Silica Gels to Improve Analytical Technique Continued research efforts made it possible for E. Merck, Darmstadt, Germany, to improve their silica gel sorbents. In addition to the previous features you can also obtain: •

Better and sharper separations which mean improved resolution.

Reduced development times, especially with polar solvents.

Smoother surfaces to reduce background noise in densitometry.

This improved TLC and column sorbent is called silica gel type 60. It distinguishes itself from previously supplied silica gels only by a narrowerjaarticle size range, a mean pore size diameter of 60 A, and closely controlled physical parameters which are, generally, the same as before.
