Initially called "Emery 3713-R", Empol 1010 is the lightest-colored, purest dimer acid ever made commercially. New processing techniques have produced a product with approximately 97-98% dimer acid (C36 dibasic acid), negligible monomeric acid (Cie monobasic acid), and extremely low unsaturation. Color is typically 1 on the Gardner scale. With its high dibasic acid content, Empol 1010 is well suited for preparation and modification of high molecular weight polymers, e.g. film-and-fiber forming polyamides, polyesters, and urethane polyesters. Its low degree of unsaturation keeps undesirable side reactions to a minimum. Lighter-colored derivatives are now possible, too, due to the light color and excellent color stability.
