Emorganics Can you see the big difference between these polyesters ? Probably not, in this illustration. The reflectometer, however, shows the Yellow Index* for the dimethyl terephthalate/ethylene glycol polyester incorporating new Emerox® 1144 Azelaic Acid to be 8 units lower than for the similar polyester modified with sebacic acid shown at left. (See accompanying table for comparison of color and color stability of Emerox 1144, adipic, and sebacic acids.) It's the superior color, color stability, and extremely low monobasic content of Emerox 1144 that allow greater control over the color and molecular weight of end products. These outstanding characteristics are indicative of its purity and quality, so essential in the preparation and modification of high molecular weight condensation polymers, such as polyesters and nylons. Typical composition of Emerox 1144, as % methyl esters by gas chromatography, is as follows: Cg dibasic, 92.00; Cio dibasic, 1.20; C n dibasic, 5.60; other dibasics, 1.16; monobasics, 0.04. *Yellow Index determined on a Gardner Multi-Purpose Reflectometer. The lower the number, the less yellow the sample appears to the eye. Polyester slab stocks were used in this test.

Significant

developments from Emery oleochemical

research

New plasticizer for drycleanable vinyls A new, high molecular weight polymeric plasticizer, spe cially developed for use in compounding drycleanable polyvinyl chloride constructions, has just been introduced by Emery. Emery 3745-D, the latest addition to Emery's com prehensive line of specialty plasticizers, is highly resistant to perchlorethylene extraction. It also has excellent re sistance to extraction by other organic or hydrocarbon solvents. Light color, superior low temperature performance, and good humidity aging are other advantages offered by Emery 3745-D. Excellent efficiency, compatibility, and heat stability contribute to processing ease and economy. Check coupon for performance data and evaluation sample.
