INFORMATION EXPERT The National Institutes of Health, Public Health Service, through the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP), a Division of Cancer Treatment, National Cancer Institute is seeking applicants for an Information Expert to develop and manage an information program. The DTP has major operational responsibility for a formal drug development program relating to all aspects of preclinical cancer treatment research. It conducts fundamental investigations in the design, synthesis, evaluation, and mechanisms of action of potential antitumor agents. It performs the acquisition, storage, and testing of these compounds. It maintains and develops comprehensive files of the resulting data. It has developed computational models to predict antitumor activity. It serves both the in-house staff and outside researchers. The incumbent will organize the newly established Information Technology Branch to meet the needs of the DTP. These needs have been met, for the past several years, by separate chemical and biological systems. The incumbent is thus not expected to develop a new system, but to improve existing ones where warranted, to best meet the needs of the user population. Applicants should have advanced training and considerable experience in Computer Science, together with higher degree(s) in a chemical

and/or biological science. The ability to organize and manage a branch with major service responsibility is required. Candidates must have extensive experience in the design, development and management, on a large scale, of structural chemical data and of biological data. Preference will be given to an applicant able to demonstrate successful implementation, in the past, of innovative approaches. The initial appointment is for a term of up to two years, with the possibility of two additional one year extensions. The responsibilities and pay are equivalent to that of a GS-13-14 in the Civil Service. The salary range will be $29,000 to $45,000, depending on expertise and experience of the individual selected for the position. Applicant selected will be covered by Civil Service Retirement and will be eligible for life insurance and health benefits. Interested persons should respond by July 7, 1980 to Dr. Vincent T. Oliverio, Associate Director, Developmental Therapeutics Program, DCT, NCI, Blair Building, Room 5A03, 8300 Colesville Road. Silver Spring, MD 20910. Please include a complete curriculum vitae. It would be appreciated if persons active in this field, and who know individuals who may be qualified, interested, and available would transmit this notice appropriately. An Equal Opportunity Employer.
