THE US ARMY MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL DEFENSE (USAMRICD) is the lead laboratory in the Department of Defense for research on the development of antidotes against chemical warfare threats. The Institute currently has an opening for a principal investigator and team leader with a background in biochemistry or molecular biology. Applicants should be able toprovide evidence of experience in the following: 1) The ability to design and conduct original research involving the application of molecular biology t e c h n i q u e s / strategies in the development of mutant recombinant human proteins, 2) The ability to communicate orally to defend scientific programs and ideas to peers and upper level management, and 3) The ability to interpret, summarize and express findings in scientific papers, technical reports and in recommendations to upper level management. Knowledge regarding transgenic animcal development, inducible expression systems, experience involving the identification, cloning and expression of wild type or site-directed mutant genes and experience working with proteins that are postulated to have a therapeutic effect in vivo against a xenobiotic compound is highly desirable. A PhD is preferred; US citizenship is required. The USAMRICD is located near Baltimore, MD at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to a strong intramural program, the USAMRICD currently has in place numerous collaborative research efforts with national and international laboratories. Senior & Associate Scientists A major expansion of the Chemistry group in 2000 requires 15 highly skilled scientists to drive the development and optimization of new synthetic processes, often based on ChiRex proprietary technology.
