mington, Del. It is a viscous, brownish, oil-like product which disperses to form clear-t>pe emulsions in water. It is soluble in the presence of high concentrations of salts, such as common salt, Glauber's salt, and Epsom salt, and is resistant to high degrees of hardness in wate*. It is highly stable in solution on prolonged boiling. Duponol G, a new alcohol sulfate emulsifying agent derived from lauryl alcohol, is also announced by the company. It is a translucent amber-colored paste to be added to the oil phase for preparation of emulsions. A new purified type of technical oleyl alcohol, Ocenol KD, which is water-white and has a bland odor, is announced by the Dyestuffs Division of the company. Because of its odor and color, this product is admirably suited to the cosmetic trade, the company says. Ocenol KD markedly reduces the surface tension of oils, ana. therefore, promotes the stability of oil ana wax emulsions. It also promotes limpid solutions of oil. A new chrome color, Pontachrome Orange RL, possesses very good fastness to light and will be of primary interest as a shading color to produce mode shades on automotive upholstery, uniform cloth, and other fabrics. The color is very fast to carbonising, a desirable characteristic in a chrome color. Steaming, perspiration, washing, ana fulling have very little, if any, effect upon the shade.

Liggt-Weight Air Compressors T H E Quincy Compressor Co., Quincy, III, has announced two single-stage compressors, especially designed to meet the demand for a compact, light-weight air compressor suitable for low-pressure service.
Model X-2 Model X-8 Model X-2 is a single-stage, single-cylinder compressor weighing only 15 pounds and satisfactory for piston displacements up to 2.8 cubic feet per minute at maximum speed, 875 revolutions per minute. Model X-8 is a single-stage, duplex-cylinder compressor weighing only 31 pounds and has a piston displacement oi 8.7 cubic feet per minute at maximum speed. The cylinder and crankcases on both models have been cast in one niece, eliminating excess weight and simplifying construction. Pressure-Lubricated Air Compressors Xwo pressure-lubricated air compressors are announced by the Quincy Compressor Co., Quincy. 111., especially deX e d for heavy duty industrial use. lei 244 is a duplex-cylinder, singlestage compressor with a maximum piston displacement of 45.7 c. f. m. Model 840 is a two-stage compressor having 40.0 c. f. m. maximum displacement, and recommended for services where air at higher pressures is required. Lubrication is furnished by a gear-type pump which supplies oil under pressure to the connecting rod bearings and piston pins. The oil pump is mounted on the end of the crankshaft, which is special 1045 8. A. E. heat-treated steel. Main bearings are Timkens, lubricated by a splash system which functions separately from the pressure system.
