What makes a good "Help Wanted" ad ? When you advertise in business publications for technical personnel, you look for a high response . . . from qualified personnel. In our contacts with advertisers, we've discovered that the applicants who answer ads in C&EN are of high caliber. But there are variations in the response to similar ads—even of identical size. What makes one employment ad better than another? Over the years we've put together a few "do's" and "don'ts" for advertisers . . . tips that will help you improve the response to your ad. Maybe some of them can help you. 1. Readers do not like "blind" ads. And the best men are least likely to answer them. You can " u p " your returns both in quality and quantity by sign ing your company name. 2. Be specific. Describe the job qualifications as completely as you can. Location. Name of person or department to contact. Advance information required. 3. Answer all inquiries. It's not fair to applicants or to the industry as a whole to ignore replies to your ads. C&EN has an obligation to both advertisers and readers. We count heavily on your cooperation to help us maintain it.

Volume II has 1,914 pages of critically evaluated data, tabulated, covering a wide va riety of temperature ranges, solvents, and mixtures of sub stances, and including melting point references. Volume II (1966) covers the elements (and compounds of them) with symbols from Κ through Z, and complements Volume I, which appeared in 1959. Dr. William F. Linke, Amer ican Cyanamid Company, has completed the careful revision of this widely used compen dium started by the late Dr. Atherton Seidell.
