instrument is made easier. AU parts of the instrument are mounted together on an arm with an inclination joint per mitting a comfortable reading angle for the operator. The prism boxes are arranged on their sides, making the diagonal separation between the boxes vertical. As a result, the sample may be poured into the space between the boxes without moving the instrument. The sample is removed by merely separating the boxes and wiping or washing the prisms clean. Tempera ture-controlling water circulates through the prism boxes. Readings are made in arbitrary units on a linear scale on the arc sector. These values are converted to sugar values in accordance with the tables prepared by Dr. Bachler, or into degrees Brix. Tests show that the instrument produces ac curate readings to the fifth point. Henry Cartridge Dehydrator HE Henry car T tridge dehydra tor, designed for

air conditioning and refrigeration, is finding increasing use for removal of m o i s t u r e from chemicals in solution, and in air drying. Major features are its patented dispersion tube and replaceable dehydrant cartridge. The perforated dispersion tube, exposing the entire volume of dehydrant to penetra tion by thefluidor air, extends along the center axis of the dehydrant column. This construction is claimed to reduce the pressure drop and prevent channeling and resultant loss of efficiency. A strong compression spring provides positive seal ing of dispersion tube to inlet fitting, pre venting by-passing between outside of dehydrant cartridge and inner surface of dehydrator shell. Every trace of moisture is removed by the Henry vacuum process. The dryers then are sealed with dehydrated air, ensuring absolute dryness until moment seal cap is loosened for installation. Refill cartridges make recharging ex ceptionally simple and easy. Cartridges are available charged with activated alumina, Drierite, barium oxide, calcium oxide, or anhydrous calcium chloride. The flange shell construction of the dryer, which is distortion-proof, speeds removal and replacement of cartridges. It is obtainable in complete range of capacities. A new catalog describing latest additions to the Henry line may be obtained by writing the Henry Valve Co., 1001-19 North Spaulding Ave., Chicago, 111. Spray Nozzles ULLJET spray nozzles, for use as gas washers, industrial washers, and in chemical processes have been developed by the Spraying Systems Co., 4922 West Grand Ave., Chicago, 111. The nozzles are of sturdy construc tion, accurately ma chined, and are avail able with removable in ternal vanes from 0.125 to 3 inches, the smaller sizes with removable caps. Capacities range from 0.5 to 120 gallons per minute at 10 pounds' pressure. The standard stock construction is brass but other metals can be specified. The nozzles are claimed to give a penetrating rain like full-cone spray with

Co., Rochester, N. Y., on a new sugar refractometer of rugged design. The instrument is designed to fill the need of sugar chemists in the application of F. R. Bachler's "one solution method." It has Abbe prisms, a simplified dipping refractometer telescope, and a sodium light source, with the three units mounted as integral parts of a sturdy stand. The Abbe-type prism affords a means of load ing the solution quickly and easily, while old samples may be removed with equal facility. The inclusion of a sodium light elimi nates compensators, and setting of the

uniform distribution.
