Editorial Energy & Fuels Editor Search John Larsen has been the Editor of Energy & Fuels since its inception in 1987. Under his superb stewardship, Energy & Fuels has developed into the premier journal in its field, due in no small part to the fact that John has maintained the strictest scientific standards. Sadly, John has announced that he will step down as Editor of the journal this year. Although it is going to be difficult to replace John, I have been asked to chair a search committee to find his successor. I am requesting input from the community to suggest possible candidates for this position. This is a very critical time for the journal in that a number of the typical major areas of research in fuels chemistry and engineering are changing. Note also that Energy & Fuels is a truly international journal, with the maximum representation of papers from any one country at only 25%. We are searching for a person whose expertise fits with the scope of the journal. Energy & Fuels reports what is new in the chemistry of nonnuclear energy sources, including petroleum, coal, shale oil, tar sands, biomass, synfuels, C1 chemistry, organic geochemistry, applied catalysis, and combustion. Energy & Fuels continues to emphasize advances in the transformation, utilization, formation, and production of fossil fuels. Topics covered span the molecular composition of both the raw fuels and refined products, the chemistry involved in processing these fuels, the analytical and instrumental techniques used in energy and fuels investigations, and research on nonfuel substances relevant to fuel chemistry.
