journal depends on the goodwill and expertise of its reviewers. ES&T relies on a community of dedicated experts to ensure that we publish the most reliable and authoritative research in the field. As anyone who has ever submitted a manuscript to ES&T can attest, thorough review, provided in a timely manner, often improves the quality of a paper. At its best, a great review helps authors understand aspects of their findings that they did not fully appreciate and positions the work in the broader context with respect to other developments within the field. It also helps the editors separate novel contributions from incremental research. We realize that reviewing is hard work that does not come with direct benefits or immediate feedback, so thanks to all of our reviewers for their efforts over the past year! Each year we present reviewer awards to recognize the efforts of exceptional reviewers who somehow found time in their busy schedules to review multiple papers and share deep insights with us. These are the people who went the extra distance to provide reviews that bring authors back to ES&T. They are the ones who turned a good manuscript into an excellent paper. They are truly the peers behind our peer review. The awards fall into two categories: an annual “Excellence in Review” award, which was established in 2003 to recognize contributions during a single year; and a “Super Reviewer Award,” which was first awarded in 2011 to reviewers who consistently make major contributions to the journal over multiple years. We salute all of the individuals below for their efforts. We could not do it without you!
