Esso Plans N e w Lab Proposed office a n d laboratory building at N e w Jersey research center to accommodate 6 0 0 employees L I N D E N , N. J.—Construction plans for a new three-story office and laboratory building have been announced by Esso Research and Engineering Co. To b e located on the grounds of Esso's re­ search center, the structure will be the center's 16th building. Ground-break­ i n g ceremonies are scheduled to take p l a c e within the next two months. Partial occupancy of the facility is ex­ p e c t e d b y October or November of L956. Temporarily, plans call for the hous­ i n g of Esso's engineering manager's office, the design division, and the eco­ nomics division. These sections are n o w located at Esso's Bayway refinery. I n addition, a number of employees currently working in t h e various divi­ sions at the main research center build­ i n g will b e m o v e d to the new facility. W h e n completely occupied, the build­ i n g "will be "home" for some 600 em­ ployees. The new structure will cover 137,000 gross square feet over its three floors plus a basement level. By comparison, t h e main building has 198,000 square feet. Architectural design will be the s a m e as that of other RC buildings, with matching exterior of light-faced brick. Among the features of the proposed structure is a lecture room with a ca­ pacity of 75 persons. three separate rooms when they are desired. Additional features include a cafe­ teria, parking facilities, and a complete air conditioning system. Other Construction. Esso has an­ nounced the completion of the founda­ tion for the products research division's fuel and lube blending lab. A pro­ posed one-story brick and steel struc­ ture of about 5 0 0 0 square feet, this new building will also b e located on the RC grounds. Expected to be ready for occupancy around the end of this year, the lab will house 15 men. Its main function is to make special blends of fuels and lubes in quantities from one to 5 0 0 gallons for research pur­ poses. I t will also handle storage of samples in bulk. Another products research building project is the test car lab. It is de­ signed to provide up-to-date facilities for evaluating Esso's fleet of test ve­ hicles, It is expected to be completed very shortly. Also under construction at the re­ search center is a new wing of the Enj'ay labs. The new wing will be devoted exclusively to Butyl rubber work,
