to an article discussing the growth and diversity of optics and the Society, "Women in Optics" provides some insight into the experiences of four women in the field of optics. This feature is in honor of 1975 as United Nations' International Women's Year. T h e four women covered represent women a t various stages of their career: a student, Mary Citron, pursuing a P h D in optics at the University of Rochester; working women Gloria Chisum and Bertha Henvis associated with the Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, Pa., and the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., respectively; and well-known Mary Warga, who although formally retired, is finding much activity as a consultant in various capacities in the field of optics. All women and many men in science and engineering will be interested in some of the experiences and comments of these women. European Spectroscopy News (ESN) is an outgrowth of a publications committee of the Association of British Spectroscopists which sought to improve and extend the circulation of the British Bulletin of Spectroscopy. T h e ESN publication is designed to be a new communications medium for the whole of European spectroscopy. Although claimed not to be profitoriented, the new publication is sup-
ported by "Sponsor Advertisers" who have an interest in the furtherance of spectroscopy and is distributed free to European spectroscopists. T h e first issue includes letters from spectroscopists, a view of vibrational spectroscopy; national news from European countries; an international diary listing meetings; new products; literature; letter from America by J e a n e t t e Grasselli; and other news-type material. T h e "literary supplement" accompanying the first issue incorporates the above-mentioned Bulletin. T h e first issue is overwhelmingly supplied with advertising information on other Heyden publications. E-H R e s e a r c h Laboratories, Inc., 515 11th St., Oakland, Calif. 94604, 415-834-3030, has acquired the assets of D a t a Graphics Corp. of San Antonio, Tex. All Data Graphics operations and employees will move to the Oakland headquarters of E-H. D a t a Graphics makes multichannel data acquisition systems; E-H makes pulse generators, integrated circuit test systems, sampling oscilloscopes, and other electronic instrumentation. T h e U.S. D e p a r t m e n t of Commerce has planned t a n d e m expositions of analytical instruments for science and industry at its T r a d e Centers in
News and Views Frankfurt, Germany, J a n . 27-30, 1976, and Stockholm, Sweden, Feb. 3-6, 1976. U.S. suppliers of analytical instruments are thereby given an opportunity t o offer new products to these markets. T h e Commerce Dept. has estimated German and Scandinavian markets for these products. F u r t h e r information is available from M. A. Peter, DIBA, Rm. 4209, U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Washington, D.C. 202967-4256 3M Analytical Systems has announced the availability of a contract analysis services with three regional laboratories to cover the nation. T h e service includes surface analysis of a wide variety of materials including metals, semiconductors, organics, and glasses by both ion scattering spectroscopy (ISS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Regional laboratories are located at Marlton, N.J., Los Angeles, Calif., and at 3M's Analytical Systems headquarters in St. Paul, Minn.
