FACSS '99 The 26th Annual Conference of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry & Spectroscopy Societies In association with Spectroscopy Society of Canada
Vancouver Convention Center, Vancouver, Canada October 24 - 29, 1999 FACSS '99 LOCATION. All conference sessions and exhibits will be held at the Vancouver Convention Center, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. FACSS Workshops will be conducted at the Waterfront Centre Hotel. VANCOUVER. Vancouver, voted 1998 best international destination by travel writers, is Canada's Pacific Rim city. It offers a unique combination of spectacular natural setting and the excitement of a world class destination. Majestic snow capped mountains and ancient evergreen forests stretch into the sparkling blue Pacific. Oceanside parks lead the way to sandy beaches. Vancouver offers a mild climate year-round where you can golf, ski and sail in the same day. PURPOSE. The purpose of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) is to organize an outstanding scientific meeting in all areas of analytical chemistry and spectroscopy. FACSS is one of the leading analytical chemistry conferences in the world, with over 1.500 participants and over 900 presentations. FACSS is unique with consistently outstanding quality and breadth. Two thirds of the presentations are by invited or solicited authors. As a result, FACSS is the meeting to learn about the latest developments from leading scientists not only in particular topical areas but throughout analytical chemistry and spectroscopy. ICASS. The 45th International Conference on Analytical Sciences & Spectroscopy (ICASS) sponsored by the Spectroscopy Society of Canada (SSC) will be held in conjunction with the FACSS '99. PLENARY LECTURE. FACSS is pleased to announce that Dr. David Suzuki, award-winning scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster, will present the Plenary Lecture - "Setting the Bottom Line for the Next Millennium; Science, Economics and the Environment". "As we approach the next millennium," says Suzuki, "we have an opportunity to reflect on who we are, where we've come from, where we are heading." Suzuki is familiar to television audiences as the host of CBC's Planet for the Taking, Man Alive and the long-running The Nature of Things. His PBS eight-part series The Secret of Life was widely praised in the U. S. and internationally, as were his specials Cyberspace and his five-part series The Brain (seen on the Discovery Channel). PROGRAM. The program for FACSS in Vancouver is joint with the Spectroscopy Society of Canada and will be the first glimpse of analytical science of the next millennium. The program will consist of 900 presentations in the areas of: Atomic Spectroscopy, Analytical Oceanography, Biophysical/Bioanalytical, Chemometrics, Process Analytical, Raman, Biomedical Imaging, Molecular Spectroscopy, Microanalytical, Mass Spectrometry, Atmospheric/Environmental, Analytical Laboratory - Challenges and Opportunities, Teaching Analytical Chemistry, and Separations. The preliminary program will be available at http://facss.org/info.html sometime in early May. WORKSHOPS. Workshops are a valuable component of FACSS and are conducted by leading experts.
