October Featured Molecules The WebWare molecules of the month are discussed in two laboratory articles in this issue. Quinine is studied in the article “A Fluorimetric Approach to Studying the Effects of Ionic Strength on Reaction Rates: An Undergraduate Steady-State Fluorescence Laboratory Experiment” by Stephen W. Bigger, Peter J. Watkins, and Bruce Verity (page 1191). Urea, a typical protein denaturant, is
used as a cosolvent in the article “Transfer Free Energy and the Hydrophobic Effect” by Joseph M. Serafin (page 1194). Fully manipulable (Chime) versions of these and other molecules are available at the Only@JCE Online Web site: http://jchemed.chem.wisc.edu/JCEWWW/Features/WebWare/ MonthlyMolecules/2003/Oct/.
