Fill your head with fluorochemical facts,

When you need information on fluorochemicals, call on 3M for complete facts about the best products and methods to help you solve your toughest problems. Do you have wetting or stability problems when using acid etching baths? Do your masks and molds stick to finished goods? Are silicones migrating into areas where they're unwanted? Fluorad™ Fluorochemical Products have the unique physical characteristics you need to solve these and other problems as yet unborn.

3M has more than fifteen different fluorochemical products that offer low surface energy and excellent resistance to harmful chemical and thermal environments. But, most important, we offer technical expertise that's second to none. Not only do we provide ample samples for testing as well as printed literature describing Fluorad Surfactant characteristics, we also can conduct seminars for your personnel.

Tough, tougher, toughest Fluorad Fluorochemical Products have extremely low surface energy—reducing surface tensions below those obtained with conventional hydrocarbon surfactants. In organic media, Fluorad Surfactants reduce surface tension values to approximately 20

dynes/cm. In aqueous solution, they reduce surface tensions to less than 16 dynes/cm. and are effective at use levels as low as 10 ppm. Their most common use level is in the vicinity of 50 ppm. Their toughness is legendary — some withstand hot chromic, hydrofluoric and nitric acids. Some are stable at temperatures as high as 600°F As a consequence, Fluorad Fluorochemical Surfactants are highly recommended for use in rinsing, cleaning, etching and plating baths. The unique physical characteristics of this class of products makes them useful in a wide variety of applications in addition to use as surface active agents — release coatings, catalysts, antimigration agents, etc. Ask our technical staff for a suggestion about your application.

Improve coatings physical properties. Because of our fluoropolymers' inherent electrical and moisture resistance characteristics, we have formulated a useful conformal coating for the electronics industry. It is a one-part system that dries readily at room temperature, is solvent strippable for easy repair, and has excellent UV fluorescence to help you determine whether coverage is complete. We have also developed a special Fluorad Release Coating to coat hard surface photo-imaging masks used in the manufacture of MOS devices. It offers reduced transfer, sticking and rework problems with a consequent improvement in yield.

and moisture absorption. With this product, high insulation resistivity is retained and arcing and tracking are reduced.

Straight from the ract-ory These are only a few of the many possible uses for Fluorad Fluorochemicals. We have more than a dozen other fluorochemicals that pass on desirable characteristics — increased wetting, higher density, lower refractive index, greater lubricity, or altered solubility. How can we put Fluorad Fluorochemicals to work answering your problems? Tell us what you have in mind. We'll send appropriate literature. In addition to our comprehensive technical literature, we also can conduct informative seminars in your facility. Laboratory technologists are available to answer your applications questions. Fluorad Surfactant samples are also available. For complete information, write Industrial Chemical Products Division/ 3M, Building 223-6S-04,3M Center, St. Paul, MN 55144-1000.
