Partial reduction of esters to aldehydes at — 70C is possible with Vitride. Solubility of Vitride and intermediates at this low temperature is good, so yields are good. This reaction is impractical with other reducing agents because of low solubility. Influence of alcohol chain structure on aldehyde yield is stronger than influence of the structure of the parent acid.
