of acid t o remove scale without h a r m . Of course, t h e juice m u s t be p r o ­ t e c t e d from any possible c o n t a m i n a ­ t i o n by metallic corrosion products. A n d t h e screens must not d e f o r m under pressure. Monel nickel-copper alloy p r o ­ v i d e s the needed combination of high c o r r o s i o n resistance and strength.

In each filter there are 22 Monel alloy leaves, each m a d e of five w i r e screens stretched between a cast h u b and a specially f o r m e d TJ-channel r i m . A pre-coat is laid o n automatically i n 1 0 - m i n u t e s . A f t e r t h e run, it i s j e t t e d off w i t h t h e cake in 4 m i n u t e s .
