K EARLIER paper ( 2 ) described a vortex burner for study-

ing the stability limits of flames in fuels and fuel mixtures of widely different burning characteristics. The influence of certain burner parameters on the stability limit was described and other parameters which required further investigation were indicated. Another paper ( I ) described the behavior of various binary mixtures of similar and dissimilar fuels a t the blowoff limit on the vortex burner. This paper reports studies of the influence of the temperature of the unburned combustible mixture on the stability limits of the resulting flames, the possible range of useful operation of the burner in a practical application, and the influence on the stability limits of the length of the divergent recovery section.
