in the country, including IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISC, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, and IISER Thiruvananthapuram. We hope that the readership shares our enthusiasm for the work collected in the forum. We also wish to take the opportunity to thank the authors for their contributions and to Associate Editor Ashutosh Sharma (IIT Kanpur) for his efforts on the organization of the Forum.

ndia is rising. In all areas of science and engineering, the productivity and quality of the research being done in India is on a steadily increasing path. This increase is mirrored within ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. As can be seen from the data shown below (Figure 1,) during the past 5 years, the number of papers published in the journal with authors or coauthors hailing from India has increased approximately 25% year over year. The number of citations to these papers is also increasing rapidly. India now has many world class research institutions, where there is a focus on graduate education and state of the art research. According to a recent database survey,1 the top ten research institutions in India are spread across the country, and include Panjab University, four Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT, Bombay, Guwahati, Kharagpur and Madras), as well as the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and several other government research institutes. Although there is exciting science and engineering being done across the country, we are especially excited about the high quality research being done in the field of materials/interfaces science and engineering. The Forum that is contained in the current issue of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces provides a snapshot of research in the field from many top researchers in the Indian science and engineering community. The Forum contains 14 papers, including one letter and a review article. The papers are authored by scientists and engineers located at many of the top institutions
