Dr. H. Kaiser was born in 1907. He studied physic Sj mathematics, and chemistry at the Universities of Munster, Freiburg, and Cologne, where he was granted a Ph.D. in 1932. After some years as a university assistant to Prof. Fdrsterling, he joined the Carl Zeiss Optical Co. at Jena in 1934. He started working on spectro chemical analysis in 1935. After the war he moved to West Germany, where he became a university lecturer at Bonn in 1947. He also worked with the State Institute for Testing Materials at Dortmund. In 1952 he became Director of the newly founded Institute for Spectrochemistry which he build up to its present size (staff number about 100). Dr. Kaiser is Honorary Professor at the University of Munster; he is a member of the American Chemical Society and Fellow of the Optical Society of America. At present he is Chairman of the IUPAC Commission for “Spectrochemical and Other Optical Methods of Analysis,” and he is a member of the ICSU-UN E-SCO Committee (Unisist) which studies the feasibility of a world information system.

varistaltic pump

WITH SOLID STATE CONTROLS This versatile, foolproof model produces peristaltic effect to pump acids, bases, toxic and sterile liquids and gases safely and quietly through flexible tubing —without the liquid coming in contact with pumping mechanism. Single control knob regulates uniformly variable speed control of gearless direct-drive permamotor solid-state by circuitry nent-magnet ...for reproducibly adjusted speeds from 24 to 400 R.P.M. with ± 3% stability... and a delivery volume range from 30 ml. to 5,000 ml. per minute. Switch action reversibility; fingertip control of forward —

and reverse speed. Maximum PS I gauge or 57 feet of water.

head—25

Any soft, flexible tubing (from 45 to 70 durometer Shore) with Y&" wall up to 3/s" inside diameter can be used. Unit weighs approx. 18 lbs.; is housed in handsome 2-tone lightweight metal cabinet—121/2" long x 9Y2" deep x 7!4" high. Available in 115-volt or 220-volt A.G.
