The Tanana Bridge, Alaska.

Future Shortages? Not for our customers. We're opening new supply lines.

In ten years the chemical industry could well be twice its present size, requiring double the supply of petrochemicals. To meet that supply, increasingly effi cient use of a key natural resourcecrude oil—is an absolute must. And that can only happen if there is innovative action now, by those with a professional understanding of the supply picture.

One interesting example is the bridge pictured above. It supports the Alyeska Pipeline over the Tanana River. The flow of crude over this bridge, in less than two months, could provide enough polyester fiber to make five suits for every American family, if a 65/35 blended fabric were used. What's more, 98% of the crude would remain available for processing into other products.

No one realizes this more than ARCO Chemical Company. Creative thinking and ingenious engineering have made great progress toward securing our own supply lines.

Like the Tanana, many problems have been solved. But many more commit ments must be made before the world's petrochemical future can be assured. As before, ARCO is ready.
