Gas Cell for Infrared Spectroscopy Agas cell can easily be construded (as shown in the figure) for the study of infrared spectra of gases evolved during pyrolysis or other chemical reactions. The required components are: (1)a Quiek-fitjoint(ma1ear female and size as requiredfor thereactionvessel),i2)a three-way stopper, (3) a glass tube (1.5-2 em i.d.1, (4) I(Br disks (or any infrared disks), and (5) a glass capillary.Al1 parts should be assembled as shown in the figure. The gas sample can he collected from the reaction vessel; i t can next be condensed in the glass capillary (5) by dipping it in liquid nitrogen, and then the spectra can he run. Saqlb Ali a n d M.
