One doesn't have to "break the bank" to purchase a reliable x-ray emission spectrometer for rapid qualitative and quantitative analyses. General Electric's XRD-5SM manual spectrometer costs less than $12,000 complete. For this price you get a unit that performs anlayses of elements from aluminum and higher in the periodic table, in concentrations as low as parts per million in powdered, solid or liquid samples. Nondestructive determinations can be made in 10 seconds to two minutes per element per specimen—with analytical accuracy as good or better than conventional chemical methods. Ask for Product Data Sheet A4966, Page 9A. A twin crystal changer, dual counter tube arrangement and our new Dual-target (Cr/W) tube combine to make the G-E SPG-3 spectrometer one of the most versatile x-ray instruments ever built. The system is designed for alternate choice of vacuum, air or helium atmospheres. Vacuum system pump-down time to 9 9 % transmission of Al K-radiation is less than two minutes. The four-position sample-changer magazine is remote-controlled. Sample holders accommodate shapes up to 2V2" square or 3" in diameter by 11/4" thick. The dual counter tube arrangement (flow proportional/scintillation counter) permits individual or simultaneous detection of long- and short-wave length photons. Ask for Product Data Sheet A4982, Pages 2A and 2B. Higher measurement rates, shorter analysis intervals and greater operating efficiency are contingent on increased power output and/or increased detector sensitivity. General Electric has made meaningful progress in both areas—particularly power output. Our XRD-6 unit output is 75 kv/50 ma, 37.5 kv/100 ma. The XRD-6 also provides two-tube alternate operation with no modification and twotube simultaneous operation with addition of a second ma control. For details, ask for Product Data Sheet A4980, Pages 1 and 2. A low-cost G-E liquid sample cell kit makes x-ray emission analysis of liquids much more convenient. The kit is usable with any General Electric spectrometer. It consists of 25 plastic cups and rings, five wire adapting rings and a 100-foot roll of clear polyester resin window material. A simple procedure for attaching the window to the sample holder practically eliminates the possibility of forming bubbles in the sample. Ask for Product Data Sheet A 4 9 6 0 G B , Page 1 .
