ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE 36TH ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE ON ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY JULY 31-AUGUST 5 , 1 9 9 4 · HYATT REGENCY DENVER · DENVER, COLORADO
Conference Highlights ATOMIC SPECTROSCOPY: Dr. Gary Hieftje will present "New Sources and Detection Systems for Atomic Mass Spectrometry", including the development of the magnetically enhanced rf GDL. CHROMATOGRAPHY: Jeanne Li, Chromatography scientist from Waters, will speak on optimizing performance of diode array analyses, used not only for peak detection, but also for peak purity. Requirements for quantitative diode array methods and solutions to analytical problems will be shown. COMPOSTING: The two day program will include presentations on remediating pesticide contaminated soil, high rate composting, on-line measurement of process parameters, modification of soil physical and biological properties, humus coating of mineral surfaces, and many other topics. ELECTROCHEMISTRY: Presentations on a variety of topics including preparation and characterization of materials and ultamicroelectrodes, fundamental aspects of electron transfer, and applications to analysis, ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY: A two day symposium featuring a half-day session on arsenic in drinking water. EPR: The 1994 EPR Symposium is a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of EPR. The recipients of Gold and Silver Medal awards from the International EPR Society will present their award lectures: Jack Freed, Keith A. McLauchlan, Harold M. Swartz, and Wojciech Froncisz. There will be a celebratory banquet. FTIR/NIR/RAMAN: Dr. Bill Fateley (invited speaker) will present data from two types of indoor FT-IR instruments: one extractive that measures the atmosphere in a small area of the room, and another that uses a folded optical path within the room.
LABORATORY SAFETY: Experts in the area of OSHA Lab standard and Emergency Response, Radiation Control, Waste Minimization and compliance with RCRA, and Laboratory Safety Program management, will present a panel discussion on various environmental, health and safety topics. LUMINESCENCE: Topics include high-speed DNA sequencing with capillary electrophoresis and fluorescence detection, luminescence based oxygen sensors, and fluorescence studies of surface binding . MASS SPECTROMETRY: Keynote presentation: "MicroElectrospray Mass Spectrometry: ultrahigh Sensitivity for Measuring Endogenous Bioactive Compounds. R.M. Caprioli, Director of the Analytical Chemistry Center, University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. NMR: Symposium Topics include Spin Dynamics / New Techniques, Inorganic Chemistry / Catalysis, Polymers, Surfaces / Interfaces, Biosystems, and Imaging. PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS: Dr Thomas Layloff, Director, FDA Division of Drug Analysis will discuss what the FDA seeks in method validation. Other topics include dissolution, diode array detectors, and other techniques applied to pharmaceutical analysis. RADIOCHEMISTRY: Panel discussion: Auditing of Radiochemical Laboratories. The panel will be composed of representatives from DOE, EPA, commercial radiochemical Laboratories, and private industry. ROBOTICS: A number of different robotics systems, including the ultra-low cost ROBIX(™> robotic prototyping system from ADVANCED DESIGN INC., will be demonstated and described
