For Your Information An article entitled "C/N Ratios in Source Rock Studies" by Douglas W. Waples of the Colorado School of Mines is published in the school's Mineral Industries Bulletin. The article examines the use of carbon-to-nitrogen ratio data in the understanding of the types of material, known as kerogens, that generate oil and gas. As the kerogens break down and yield oil or gas, the residue becomes depleted in hydrogen and nitrogen. Geochemists can analyze the kerogens to determine how far along the oil generation process is, as well as the nature of the

Mineral Industries Bulletin, Vol. 20, No. 5, September 1977, is available for $2.00 from the Colorado School of Mines, Publications Office, Golden, Colo. 80401. The ninth annual report on patterns of graduate enrollment and postdoctoral support in science and engineering fields was released by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The report entitled "Graduate Science Education Student Support and Postdoctoral, Fall 1975" (NSF 77-313) provides a detailed analysis of statistics supplied annually by graduate science department chairmen in PhD granting institutions in the U.S. through the survey of Graduate Science Student Support and Postdoctoral. The report examines patterns of student and postdoctoral support in terms of major sources of funds and types of major support, level of study, citizenship, and sex of students in science and engineering disciplines. Copies of the report are available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402 for $2.20 per copy, Stock Number 038-000-00-33-0. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announces the publication of two reports entitled "Polarographic Half-Wave Potentials of Inorganic Substances in A/,7V'-Dimethylformamide" and "Dimethylformamide: Purification, Tests for Purity and Physical Properties". The reports were prepared by IUPAC Analytical Chemistry Division's Commission on Electroanalytical Chemistry and published in the IUPAC journal Pure and Applied Chemistry, Vol. 49, No. 6 (1977).
