W h e n used i n caustic solutions prevents a d h e r e n t scale in a l u m i n u m e t c h ing, derusts, retards rerusting·, strips paint without attacking base m e t a l s — c l e a n s glass m o l d s and bottles. OXALIC ACID: s t r o n g o r g a n i c a c i d — n o t e d for i t s a b i l i t y t o eolubilize i r o n oxide —oxalates are important in blueprinting 1 a n d gold c o l o r i n g of a l u m i n u m 1 -—widely u s e d i n m e t a l c l e a n e r s a n d polishes. TARTARIC ACID: nontoxic e e q u e s t e r a n t over low a n d m e d i u m pH ranges—its salts are used in copper electroplating, for brass cleaning, tin plating, m i r ror silvering, textile p r i n t i n g and blueprinting. BENZOIC ACID: u s e d a s a 1 resin intermediate —s o d i u m salt 1 is a n antimycotic a n d anti-cor1 roeive c o m p o u n d for p a i n t s a n d 1 textiles.
