First Isooctyl Alcohol in 1948, Decyl and Tridecyl Alcohols in 1952, and NOW Hexadecyl Alcohol. Many new and novel applications are suggested by this new alcohol. I t may be used as a raw material for anionic, nonionic and cationic detergents. It is useful for making plasticizers and additives for petroleum products. Hexadecyl Alcohol can also be employed as a textile lubricant and in the produc tion of cosmetics. The fact that the primary carbinol group is located approximately in the middle of a long branched-chain imparts interesting properties to some of its derivatives.
