High-Efficiency Condenssr for Low-Boiling Liquids and Gases For drying low-bailing-point liquids such as pentane and diethylether in the laboratory, a water condenser is not efficient, and, also, it contaminates the air in thelaboratory. To avoid the health hazard and to economize on solvent waste, a condenser can he easilv fabricated that is more useful and easv to orenare and can also be used for eases. To prepare such a &denser, we need only a plastic battie wiih ;he bottom cut off and then f;tted on the desired column as a h o m in the figurc ( a 4 (it is best u,have the column of length 3 k 3 5 rm, diameter 2.5 cm with a male joint 241 29). In a plastic hottle, ice or dry ice- well as liquid nitneenurn be wed tocondense the low-bailing-point liquidsand gases.

Further modificationcan be made for the removal of liquid from the plastic bottle by f i i n g a plastic tap, as is shown in the figure (e). Saqib All and M. Mazhar Quaid-i-hrn University Islamabad, Pakistan
